Why form a study group?
 (N/A)

I would like to enter myself for all grades of the Music Craft exams in August this year. I'd like to do this for a few reasons:

1. It's an excellent way to quickly familiarise myself with all aspects of the course;

2. If I submit an entry I'm far more likely to actually study for it;

3. I would not feel happy putting any of my students through Music Craft until I've experienced the exams for myself - after all, I sat the Theory and Musicianship exams all those years ago;

4. The exams are free for this one series, which makes it a very economical exercise.

I'd love to have some 'study buddies' for this project. It will be a wonderful journey in professional development and a great way to keep in touch with other teachers.

Re: Why form a study group?

When I first read your post, Samantha, I got butterflies in my tummy just thinking about doing an exam. Then I thought it would be a great idea.  I know the stuff, I teach it every week, and if my brain turns to jelly, I won't have lost any money doing the Music craft exams.

My husband also thought it would be a great idea, so we decided to split.  I'm going to do First and Second grades, and he (lucky man) gets to do Third and Fourth Grades.

I bought the first two Student Workbooks today - 1A and 1B (*shock* that's $44.00 worth).  Now I just have to get the motivation to sit down and look through them.  So far I have painted my potato box, did heaps of washing, sorted through the kid's books.. and anything but studied.

Maybe I'll get the first lesson done tonight now that I have the books out.

Are you going through the workbooks too?  Let us know your thoughts.

It will be wonderful to have you and your husband along on this great journey of professional development!

I have posted my inital comments in the 'Preliminary' thread. You ave not mentioned preliminary grade, only grades 1-4. Are you planning on doing Preliminary or starting at Grade 1?

I have posted a spreadsheet in the downloads section which outlines a suggested time-frame for covering all grades in time for the exam. I am also planning to write comments once a week (hopefully!) beginning next term.

Good luck!

Heheh well, the real reason I'm starting straight at grade 1 and skipping preliminary is.. wait for it.. I don't trust my husband to get my 6 year old up in time for school in the morning on that day. :)

They're big ole bears, my boys.

So I'm going to concentrate on Grades 1 and 2.  And then when my brains recover from burnout I'll go through the other sets of books in a 'leisurely manner'.  My husband is pretty keen to tackle grades 3 and 4 though.

The only thing I'd wish they would do is have a bulk pack with a reduced price for teachers so you can purchase each grade without having to worry if you'll delve into your child's university savings.

But anyways.. I'll see you at your Blitz for Beginner's Workshop (yeeaaaay)

Adding to my above comment, I did find out today that there is a teacher pack for the MusicCraft books.  You can purchase each grade as a pack for about $100.00 (with the teachers books as well), or the entire set of all grades for $600.00.  I flinched at that last one.

But if you are lucky enough to have a teacher discount at your local music shop, you can purchase the entire set for about $540.00, which ends up cheaper than buying each individual book.

A comment I did hear recently was that it's a shame they didn't include just the CDs in the teacher's pack too, so we have the option of only purchasing the teacher's book, and not having to get the workbooks too.

But given that I'm about to sit Grades 1 and 2, I'm going through the workbooks anyway.
